Separation section is a unit responsible on separation of CHO cell from culture broth and protein concentration using Filtration Kvick Lab system. Cell separation is done by micro filtration (MF), a membrane filtration process which separates the cell from culture broth and product. The dominant factor in mammalian cell separation is the deformability and fragility of the cells. Thus, the cells must be treated very gently during the membrane processing to reduce cell breakage and the avoided enzymes such as proteases and glycosidase which will affect the target protein. The next processes are ultra filtration (UF) and diafiltration to concentrate the protein and to lower the concentration of salts from solutions. Recovery of protein during the filtration steps will be maintained to the maximum throughout the processes.

Purification section has an extensive experience in developing purification processes for the clarified and concentrated fermentation culture received from separation section. The operation that mainly consists of liquid chromatography, manipulates the properties of the target protein to perform several types of chromatographic operation such as:

  • Ion Exchange Chromatography (IEX)
  • Hydrophobic Interaction Chromatography (HIC)
  • Affinity Chromatography (AC)
  • Size Exclusion Chromatography (SEC)

Currently Inno Biologics' purification facilities include an AKTA Explorer for laboratory scale liquid chromatography operation and an AKTA Pilot for pilot scale operation. Inno Biologics is looking forward to have a facility for the new coming technology of Expanded Bed Adsorption technique, a process scale liquid chromatography systems and a few more laboratory scale chromatography system that can speed up our development processes.

Inno Biologics Sdn. Bhd. also performed Assay Development and Qualification which consists of Development of assays, Optimization of existing assays and Assay qualification to verify all the steps of bio processing related to product quality, quantity and purity.
